How to Extend the Life of your Phone Battery

Charging batteries

There are a lot of myths out there about how to extend the life of your phone’s battery. In order to truly take care of your device and prolong its life, use these tips and learn to tell fact from fiction.

How long does your battery last?

The lifetime of a phone battery is approximately 2-3 years, but that’s not to say that your phone or device won’t last longer or shorter. A number of variables impact the life of your device’s battery.

Your device’s battery life is determined by “charge cycles” not time. A charge cycle is determined by your device using a net 100% of its charge.

Most obviously, this is when you fully charge the device to 100% and use it until it dies at 0%. However, a charge cycle also includes times when your phone is at 75% and you use it to 25% (a total of 50% charge) then charge it back to 100% and use it to 50% (another 50%).

A charge cycle is based on the total charge like a tank of gas. You can only fill the car to half a tank two times, but you still use a full tank of gas.

Say Good Night to Your Electronics

Blue Light on your Electronics

Are you having trouble sleeping lately? Do you use your laptop, phone or tablet in bed at night?

Your phone could be the culprit of your insomnia. Your devices emit a blue light through their screens which has been linked in multiple studies to difficulty falling asleep at night.

The blue light tricks your brain into thinking it is daytime rather than nighttime. This prevents the brain from producing vital sleepy-time chemicals at night.

How do we stop this self-inflicted insomnia?

The easiest solution is to turn off the electronics after dark. If you stop using your device at sunset or around an hour to two hours before bedtime, then your brain will naturally produce the sleepy-time alert in your body.

Online Security is a must

As small businesses, it’s important for us to be conscious of the security needs of our clients and customers. As a web development company, in particular, we must always be thinking about how to maintain the privacy and security of our clients AND our clients’ clients.

Collecting Information

As a business, it is necessary to collect information about your client. What’s Your Password?

Password security

There are a number of factors that impact the security of your password from the complexity and length or even how easy it is to guess by those around you.

To check if your password is secure enough, ask yourself the following questions. (And answer honestly.)

  • How long has it been since you changed your password?
  • Do you use the same one for more than one website?
  • How many people know what your password is?
  • How complex or simple is it?

Turn it off and back on again. No really.

Turn it off then back on

We’ve all been there. Your device isn’t working quite as expected, and you are starting to get really frustrated. You give Techno Goober a call to speak with one of our expert techs, but they give you that dreaded advice.

Turn it off. And turn it back on again.

Before you get angry, this actually works. The next time your device has a glitch, your Wi-Fi is acting up, your application is slow, or your laptop is acting up, try this advice. Turn it off then turn it back on again.

Rebooting your device can help with any number of issues. It works with desktop computers, laptops, tablets, game consoles, phones, printers, and wireless routers.

When you turn your device off and on again, it resets your device, and it begins reading the code from the beginning. Sometimes the computer loses its place like reading when you’re tired and accidentally skipping a line in your book. Going back to the beginning of the paragraph, like resetting your device, helps you find your place again.

Before you get angry, this actually works. Turn it off, and turn it back on again. #goobertips Click To Tweet
