Where the name and the map disagree
Begin with what this place is not. There is no official population, because Christiana stopped being a census-designated place after 2000 and appears in neither the 2010 nor the 2020 geography; any number online is a ZIP code or a neighborhood estimate wearing a place figure's clothes. What does exist is a small eighteenth-century village with its own historic district and a handful of listed buildings — the Charles Allen House, the John Lewden House, Old Fort Church, Public School No. 111-C, the James Stewart Jr. House and the George Hillis Sr. House — plus the birthplace of Rebecca Lee Crumpler, the first African-American woman in the United States to earn a medical degree.
Now the part everybody actually means when they say the name. Christiana Mall carries a Newark mailing address. Christiana Hospital sits in Stanton. Neither one is inside the village they are named for, and a page that suggests otherwise is simply wrong.
