Media has been the Delaware County seat since 1850, and the courthouse is downtown. The Media 2035 comprehensive plan, adopted in June 2026, counts about 9,800 primary jobs inside a borough of 0.77 square miles and finds that just 2.5 percent of them are held by residents. On a weekday, in other words, the number of people working in Media exceeds the number who live in it, and nearly all of the newcomers are commuters — county employees, lawyers, clerks, and the people who feed them lunch.
For a business that means a customer base with two faces. During the day it is professional and hurried: someone with forty minutes between filings, searching on a phone. In the evening and on weekends it is the borough as a destination — the 1927 Media Theatre, the three historic districts, and, from May to late September, Dining Under the Stars, which has closed five blocks of State Street to cars every Wednesday since 2008. Your website should know which of those two customers it is talking to, and most Media sites do not.
A daytime economy and an evening one
The weekday economy is the courthouse and everything attached to it. County government is Delaware County's third-largest employer, and its Media offices generate the kind of demand — law, title, court reporting, printing, quick lunches, parking — that repeats every business day and does not depend on the weather or the season. The evening economy is more crowded and more visible. Two dozen or more restaurants take part in Dining Under the Stars, all on the same few blocks, and the trolley terminating just west of the courthouse means visitors arrive without cars and choose by walking and by phone. The big names people associate with Media are not actually in it — Riddle Hospital, with its $327 million pavilion opened in July 2023, and Penn State Brandywine are both in Middletown Township — so the borough's own businesses compete on atmosphere and findability, not on institutional traffic.

Does the Swarthmore side count as our market?
Yes. Swarthmore is a 6,543-person college borough a few stops down the Media/Wawa Line, and it was dry for more than 125 years — the downtown's first liquor license only arrived in 2020. Its residents have historically gone elsewhere for dinner, and Media is the nearest elsewhere, which makes Swarthmore a natural second location keyword for any Media restaurant or service business.
