One of the most intact old towns in Delaware
About 1,680 people live in barely a square mile of Classical Revival, Queen Anne and Bungalow housing. The historic district joined the National Register in 1987 with 310 contributing buildings and ten contributing structures, significant from the 1870s through 1941, and it includes the town hall, the mill complex, Wyoming United Methodist Church, the First National Bank of Wyoming and the old Wyoming Institute, along with the former W. M. Harris & Son vinegar and canning factory from the years when this was a peach and apple shipping point.
That density of surviving fabric is the asset, and it is also the reason to be precise about addresses. This is its own municipality — voters turned down a merger with Camden by 113 to 78 in 1975 — even though the post office prints Camden-Wyoming on the envelope. Fifer Orchards, the largest peach and apple grower in the state, maintains a page aimed at this town, but its farm store on Allabands Mill Road carries a Camden-Wyoming mailing address and does not sit inside the town limits.
When the name on the envelope is not the name of the town
